Salt-pan mud (Fango)
Fango is Istrian clay enriched with brine, pasty, naturally soft, homogeneous and blackish in colour. In the salt pans the clay absorbs minerals from the brine in extremely high concentrations. Therapeutic procedures take full advantage of the thermal and chemical effects of the mud. Fango (mud) fomentation is applied to sore parts of the body or is used for fango baths, when mixed with brine and sea water. In both cases the fango is used only once, that is for one patient at a time.
Mud packs are highly recommended in cases of degenerative changes and inflammatory (rheumatologic) diseases of the locomotor system, conditions after injuries and operations, and gynaecological diseases. The use of fango is lately becoming ever more popular for cosmetic purposes. It is very beneficial to the skin as it has a softening and tightening as well as cleansing effect. Fango works against acne and has excellent peeling properties. Due to its warming properties, fango activates and helps metabolism work better, stimulates perspiration and removal of body wastes, promoting thus the detoxification of the body and melting of cellulite.
